Pedro Brandão, Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP) and researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT), explained to 90 Segundos de Ciência the Health Kiosk, a management system for health centers that allows users to measure their vital data.

Health Kiosk currently comprises three devices that measure blood pressure, blood oximetry, and the user's weight, however, it is designed to be able to integrate more equipment in the future. For example, Kiosk can be used to collect data within the scope of surveys, namely, when we want to carry out an analysis of people with heart problems in a certain region, it will be possible to use the data from this system to assess the health status of users. Always guaranteeing the anonymity of the participants.

Health kiosk has already been tested in some health centers in the northern region with positive results, both from users and from health professionals.

“We have developed a tool that allows us to configure the kiosk and devices that we want to be available to users. We can have a kiosk dedicated to more specific things and, in addition to the instruments that are already supported, we can also add some new measuring equipment”, he reveals.

Pedro Brandão expects that this equipment can one day be used by health centers to promote the monitoring of users' health data and to reduce consultation time.
