"Sustainable 5G communications will make it possible to achieve the unimaginable, in access to the network, and in bringing together people and cultures from all regions of the globe" was the slogan of the "5G and Beyond Green Project of communication" demonstration, conducted by the young research team of TeamUp5G New RAN TEchniques for 5G UltrA-dense Mobile networks (more about this project here) at this year's edition of the European Researchers 'Night (NEI).

The topics were presented in looped sessions, in which each early-stage researcher highlighted their research ideas in the scope of energy efficiency and 5G technologies. The Kahoot online quiz was held at the end of each session as a teaser for the debate; also, a video was exhibited displaying UC3M (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid) real-time data transmission results using visible light communication (Li-Fi) to stimulate the audience by showing daily-life examples.

NEI’s purpose is to promote the role of science and research, as well as the role of science communication in broadening the engagement of the public. This year, although the activities took place in a hybrid format, many kids, young students, and their families revealed their enthusiastic appreciation for the scientific achievements and talks. NEI 2021 was held in the Museum of Natural History and Science, Lisbon, on the past 24th of September. It was dedicated to "Science for Climate", in line with the European Ecological Pact, which proposes that the impact of climate be neutral until 2050, using resources and initiatives that aim at environmental protection and at boosting the green economy.
