On November 3rd, the LUMIRing - Lisbon Underground Multicore Fiber Ring was inaugurated at Iscte, marking the launch of the world’s largest multicore optical fiber testbed, installed along the Yellow Line of the Lisbon Metro.

Coordinated by Adolfo Cartaxo, in collaboration with Metropolitano de Lisboa and several technological partners, LUMIRing is a pioneering international laboratory designed to enable research in optical communications under real-world conditions. In this case, experimentation will take place directly on the Lisbon Metro’s Yellow Line.

The inauguration ceremony featured speeches by Maria de Lurdes Rodrigues, Dean of Iscte; Miguel Pinto Luz, Minister of Infrastructure and Housing; Manuel Castro Almeida, Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion; Maria Helena Campos, Chair of the Board of Metro de Lisboa; and Adolfo Cartaxo, Project leader and member of Instituto de Telecomunicações.
