Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) reaffirmed its leadership in technological innovation in Portugal during Aveiro Tech Week 2025, held from October 6 to 9, which transformed the city into a hub of science, technology, and creativity.

In partnership with OneSource, IT organized the 6G-PATH Workshop, bringing together European experts to discuss the future of mobile communications. The event featured live demonstrations and presentations on 6G applications in smart cities, advanced agriculture, and immersive communications, in collaboration with major EU projects such as 6G-VERSUS, Imagine-B5G, NERO Cybersecurity, MIRANDA, and RIGOUROUS.

On the following day, IT showcased the ROUTE 25 project, featuring demonstrations of the autonomous vehicle PixKit in the Atlas building atrium. Highlights included automatic braking tests, interaction with vulnerable road users, and 3D cooperative perception with augmented reality, in partnership with CEPT, NOS, CMA, and VORTEX. IT participation concluded with the NATO VIP Day, where IT contributed to discussions and exhibitions linking innovation and defense, reinforcing the role of national research within international frameworks. 

IT demonstrated drone flight and monitoring operations at Cais Fonte Nova, in collaboration with NATO. At the same location, IT also showcased the interaction between its autonomous vehicle and a firefighter truck operating in emergency mode, as well as a mobile 5G station mounted on a drone, providing connectivity to dozens of mobile devices running a command-and-control application developed by Airbus Defense. This latter use case is being developed jointly by IT, Altice Labs, and Airbus Defense within the scope of the 6G-Path Project.

Aveiro Tech Week, organized by CMA - Municipality of Aveiro, once again demonstrated how the city is emerging as a living laboratory for technological experimentation, driven by institutions such as the Instituto de Telecomunicações.
