On July 11th, the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT), at Instituto Superior Técnico, had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from the government of the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil. The delegation visited to learn about the SIRESP model for Civil Defence Protection and to explore potential future partnerships.
The visiting delegation included Edgard Usuy, Secretary of State for Planning of the Government of Santa Catarina; Flávio Graff, Deputy Secretary of State for Public Security; and Igor Gonçalves de Castro, Deputy Secretary of State for the House Military Officer.
Representatives from IT included Carlos Salema, former President of IT; José Carlos Pedro, current President of IT; Rafael Caldeirinha, IT researcher and professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria; Henrique Gomes and Helena Ramos, members of the board of IT and professors at the University of Coimbra and Instituto Superior Técnico respectively; and Marco Gomes, IT researcher and professor at the University of Coimbra.
Additionally, Ricardo Dias, innovation manager at the University of Coimbra; Nuno Mendonça, pro-rector of the University of Coimbra; and Tânia Covas, advisor to the rectory of the University of Coimbra, attended the visit.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by this office and Zita Martins, vice president for international institutional affairs at Técnico.
