Hugo Plácido da Silva is an award-winning inventor, researcher, and entrepreneur, co-founder of several innovative technology-based companies that develop activities in the areas of biomedical devices and data science for healthcare.
He holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon (UL), and has been a researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicações since 2004.
Throughout his career, he has actively contributed to over 50 national and international projects, funded by prestigious programs like Horizon 2020, Portugal 2020, and Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT), as well as by organizations such as BBC, Vodafone, and Nokia. With 8 patents granted and over 260 articles published in renowned international journals, conferences, and book chapters, his expertise spans biosignal instrumentation, biomedical systems engineering, signal processing, and machine learning.
He has received numerous distinctions both nationally and internationally, including the "IEEE Entrepreneurship Impact Award," the "Career Award alumniIPS," and the "Best Industrial and Enabling Technology" at the European Commission's DG-CONNECT Innovation Radar Prize, among others.
