The SyMat COST Action (Future communications with higher-symmetric engineered artificial materials) has the ambition to promote an international research community proposing innovative solutions to the demand for omnipresent connections in today’s society. Higher data rates and shared platforms can only be achieved if a new class of communicating devices becomes available at millimeter waves.
A meeting of the SyMat Cost Action Network took place on the 4th-5th of May at ISCTE, coorganized by Sérgio Matos, our member, with the participation of several entities such as KTH Royal Institute of Technology, University of Zagreb, Universidade Siena, Universidade Sorbonne and a representative of Erikson, with sponsoring by ANACOM. In the scope of this meeting, took also place the presentation of the IT Antennas and Propagation Lab, coordinated by Carlos Fernandes (in the photo).
The novelty of the subject motivates the need for a diverse network: different scientific backgrounds – scientists working in physics, engineering, and numerical modelling, together with investigators working in companies – will contribute to meaningful research lines. Participation of young researchers and female investigators is especially expected. SyMat will contribute to the impact of European research on public scientific awareness, societal change and economic development, by granting the know-how of emerging technology and enabling the transfer of results for exploitation.
