IT participates in the “Ciência Viva no Laboratório - Criação Futuro 2022” program, a scientific occupation for young students on vacation from June 27 to September 2, 2022, with the aim of promoting the experimental teaching of science and encouraging young people to pursue scientific careers.
The IT offers three actions, namely, INBIO, promoted by Hugo Silva and Ana Fred (IT-IST); INTELE, promoted by Custódio Peixeiro (IT-IST); and, IEC-5G, promoted by Fernando Velez (IT-UBI).
[INBIO]
This internship intends to make an introduction to biosignals, biomedical instrumentation and telecommunications. Corresponds to 30 hours (3 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon for 5 days). Mornings are dedicated to group presentations, laboratory visits and experimental sessions. During the afternoons, the interns will dedicate themselves to assembling “kits” for acquiring biosignals and experimenting with biomedical sensors on firsthand. The trainees will have contact with the techniques of manufacturing and testing printed circuits, soldering the components of the kits, manufacturing some of the components to be used and testing the circuits at the end. The group presentations program will cover an introduction to biomedical engineering, physiology of systems, signals and systems, fundamentals of biomedical instrumentation, artificial intelligence, network, and Internet communications, mobile communications, video encoding and analysis, and wireless power transmission.
[INTELE]
This internship (ID 1696) intends to introduce you to telecommunications and lasts for 30 hours (3 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon, for 5 days). Mornings are dedicated to group presentations, laboratory visits and experimental sessions. During the afternoons, the interns will assemble FM radio receiver kits, visit the Faraday Museum and enter an anechoic chamber. The trainees will have contact with printed circuit manufacturing and testing techniques, solder the components of the kits and test the circuits at the end.
[IEC-5G]
This internship covers the basics of electronics and mobile and wireless telecommunications. Corresponds to 25 hours (3 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon, for 5 days). It will allow students to get in touch with some of the innovative applications of electronics and communication networks, through immersion in the research and development context of the Instituto de Telecomunicações and carrying out visits and experiences. It will include conceptual sessions, laboratory work with the assembly of electronic kits, basic techniques for the production of printed circuits, experimental measurements of received power, bit rate and other relevant quantities in 5G mobile systems. Interns will be exposed to the assembly of simple point-to-multipoint connections and the experimental verification of the performance, as well as the main research and technological challenges for the development of mobile and wireless communications in the 21st century (for example, small terrestrial and aerial drone-based cells, Open RAN and splitting, spatial processing and massive MIMO capabilities).
The registration period is running since June 9, 2022. Find out more:
