Between July 11-18, the 9th edition of the Lisbon Machine Learning School – LxMLS2019 will once again take place in Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). Jointly organized by IST, IT, INESC-ID, Unbabel, Priberam Labs and Feedzai, this summer school that is dedicated to artificial intelligence, more specifically machine learning, has once again Google as its main sponsor.
The organization received a record number of 638 applications from all over the world, of which about 200 will be selected. “As for the speakers, we will have several that were present in previous editions, such as Chris Dyer (Google Deep Mind), Slav Petrov (Google), Bhiksha Raj (Carnegie Mellon University), Noah Smith (University of Washington and Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence), Kyunghyun Cho (New York University) and Stefan Riezler (Universidade de Heidelberg. We will also have some speakers who will be with us for the first time, like Tara Sainath (Google) and Claire Cardie (Cornell University)”, said Mário Figueiredo (IT/IST), a member of the Steering Committee and who will once again be among the group of lecturers.
Characterized by a strong practical component, this summer school calls upon students, researchers and professionals from the areas of Natural Language Processing and Computational Linguistics who wish to gain a deeper understanding about automatic learning.
As it happens every year, the LxMLS 2019 will also have a Demo Day, an informal gathering that brings together a number of highly technical companies and research institutions, alongside savy students from LxMLS and other Portuguese institutions, all with the aim of solving machine learning problems through technology. The Demo Day will be hosted in Salão Nobre of Pavilhão Central of IST on Monday July the 15th, from 17:00 to 20:00.
