Joel Rodrigues, a collaborator of IT, was recently elected for the Board of Governors of the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), and appointed as the Director for Conference Development for the biennium 2018-2019.

As described in the IEEE ComSoc official website (https://www.comsoc.org/about), the society aggregates “a diverse group of global industry professionals with a common interest in advancing all communications technologies”.

Joel Rodrigues explained us what will be is role as Director for Conference Development – “I am in charge of managing the entire ComSoc conference portfolio, as well as the promotion of the conferences that apply to be part of this portfolio and the management of the application process, evaluation and decision about the international conferences that are applying for Technical Co -Sponsorship of IEEE ComSoc, the use of the logos and the publishing of the proceedings on IEEExplorer".

Joel Rodrigues is also the Past-Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Technical Committee on eHealth, the Past-chair of the IEEE ComSoc Technical Committee on Communications Software, a Steering Committee member of the IEEE Life Sciences Technical Community, a Publications co-Chair, and Member Representative of the IEEE Communications Society on the IEEE Biometrics Council. He was also recently appointed a Distinguished Lecturer by the IEEE ComSoc (see https://www.it.pt/News/NewsPost/3401).
