TWEVO, the startup founded by the IT researchers Carlos Ribeiro and Mónica Figueiredo, is the winner of the European Commission´s SME Instrument funding.
The SME Instrument is part of the European Innovation Council (EIC), which supports entrepreneurs, small businesses and scientists with funding opportunities and acceleration services. Has explained on the Horizon 2020 webpage (http://ec.europa.eu/programmes/horizon2020/en/h2020-section/sme-instrument), “The SME instrument supports close-to-market activities, with the aim to give a strong boost to breakthrough innovation with a market-creating potential. Highly innovative SMEs with a clear commercial ambition and a potential for high growth and internationalization are the prime target”. This is “The Champions League of companies”, said Bernd Reichert, Head of SMEs in Horizon 2020 unit.
After a thorough evaluation conducted by a panel of multinational technology, business and financial experts, and having faced the fierce competition of more than 650 other European start-ups, TWEVO came-out on the TOP 5.
This SME Instrument funding will enable TWEVO to access the European market and get feedback on the potential of their product, REVOsdr, which allows real-time communication for future 5G
