Martin Cooper, the father of mobile phones, will be in Portugal, joining us at IT´s 25 years commemorative session this coming October 12 on Techdays in Aveiro.
Considered a legend from the digital industry and Motorola, he will share its history of the past and the future of mobile phones, in what will be a mind-blowing journey into the past and future of the device that changed the world.
Martin Cooper, known as the "Father of the portable cell phone" conceived the first mobile phone and led the team that created it in 1973. As an inventor, entrepreneur and executive, he has contributed to wireless technology for more than 60 years.
During his 29-year tenure at Motorola, Cooper was a division manager and R&D Corporate Director. Later he became a successful entrepreneur and established several companies, including Cellular Business Systems, which was a leader in the US mobile billing industry in the 1980s, as well as ArrayComm, which became the world leader in smart antenna technology. His wife, Arlene Harris and Cooper, co-founded GreatCall, Inc., manufacturer of the Jitterbug phone and service.
Currently, Cooper is the president and co-founder of Dyna LLC, a business incubator. He is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering and was one of the laureates of the Marconi Prize (2013) and the Prince of Asturias Award (2009). In 2007 Time Magazine named him one of the 100 greatest inventors in history.
