The popularity and interest generated by the Lisbon Machine Learning School (LxMLS) keeps growing every year. After the 6th edition (2016) achieving a record of more than 450 candidate applications, this year´s edition pulverized that number with more than 530 applications received. “LxMLS 2017 can be considered a great success. Continuing the trend observed in the previous years, we had record numbers of candidates and participants (almost 200) from all around the world, mostly PhD and MSc students, but also people from companies and research institutions”, said Mário Figueiredo (IT), one of the organizers of the event.

According to the LxMLS organization, the feedback from both the participants and the speakers was very positive. “People have praised the high quality of the lectures, the usefulness of the hands-on laboratory sessions, and also the excellent opportunity to meet people working in related areas, which is so important in today's networked world”, concluded Mário Figueiredo.

One of the best chances participants had to expand their network was during Demo Day. Organized within the LxMLS, the demo day joined technical companies, research institutions and the LxMLS and other Portuguese institutions´ students. This informal gathering was a perfect opportunity for students and researchers to see how other solved similar problems in their work and also for companies to showcase their products and the problems they solve.
