Daniel Dinis, from IT in Aveiro, received the award for the Best Live Demo in the XIII Jornadas sobre Sistemas Reconfiguráveis (REC 2017) with the work "Designing Frequency Agile FPGA-based All-Digital RF Transmitters". As the winner, Daniel Dinis received the Digilent Pynq-Z1 kit, courtesy of Xilinx Corp.

The live demo aimed to demonstrate the design of Frequency-Agile Fully Digital RF Transmitters with minimal external RF front-end. Unlike conventional approaches based on external Digital to Analog Converters and analog upconversion schemes, the work showed that pulsed transmitters based on FPGA high-speed serializers and embedded digital transceivers can have a major impact in leveraging the integration and massification of digital RF front-ends for the next generation of radio systems.

The work was supervised by Arnaldo Oliveira and José Neto Vieira, both from the Radio Systems group of IT in Aveiro, and was developed in collaboration with Rui Cordeiro and André Prata, both from the University of Aveiro.

The XIII Jornadas sobre Sistemas Reconfiguráveis took place at IT in Aveiro, between 30-31 January, 2017. The event was organized by IT in Aveiro in partnership with the University of Aveiro and the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
