João Guerreiro, Rui Dinis and Paulo Carvalho, researchers from IT, were distinguished with the Best Paper Award for their contribution on “Optimum Performance and Spectral Characterization of CE-OFDM Signals” in the IEEE VTC-2015 Conference Fall Edition of IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS), held in Boston on September 6-9, 2015.

The paper is about Constant Envelope OFDM modulations (CE-OFDM) which have similar characteristics to the OFDM modulations used in most of the current high throughput wireless communication systems, but unlike these ones, it allows using saturated amplifiers. These are much simpler and with much better efficiency than the linear amplifiers required for conventional OFDM.

The importance of the topic and the fact that this work presented a fully analytic framework for CE-ODM modulation performance analysis (instead of simulation-based analysis available in scarce works about CE-OFDM) might have been the major reasons for the paper being selected among around 500 presented in the conference.
