Joel Rodrigues was chosen as the month personality for the newspaper “The Institute”, from IEEE.

Working on the development of the networking technologies that will make electronic health - or e-health - applications possible, Joel Rodrigues is trying to bring to reality new forms of healthcare.

In his words, he “works hard to further state-of-the-art technologies that help shape our world and create a better future for coming generations.”

Mainly focused on wireless body area networks, to be embedded in clothes and even implanted under the skin, the purpose is to continuously monitor vital signs such as blood pressure, glucose levels, body temperature, and respiratory rate, relaying information to computer systems that can inform medical professionals when something is wrong.

Joel Rodrigues is working on new kinds of architectures and communication protocols for these body sensor networks as well as mobile health applications.
