André Santiago - MSc thesis developed at IT by a student from IST wins the 2nd place in “Future Ideas Innovation Thesis Competition 2014''

André Santiago, MSc student of Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, won the second place at the finals of the European competition “Future Ideas Innovation Thesis Competition 2014” that was held last Monday, March 17 in Venice, Italy.
He had been selected in February for the Masters Top Three among more than 350 submissions received from 27 European countries, covering 13 areas spanning from transports to health. André submitted the thesis “Antennas for Body Area Networks”, developed at the Antennas and Propagation Group of Instituto de Telecomunicações under the supervision of Professors Carlos A. Fernandes from IST/DEEC and Jorge R. Costa from ISCTE-IUL.
FUTURE IDEAS is a platform supported by several innovation oriented companies whose main objective is to “accelerate innovation and entrepreneurship by bringing together graduates, academia, companies and young talents”. They look for original themes or problems that have been deeply studied, providing innovative conclusions that can be applied in business or in society”.
André had previously been awarded the 1st prize in the MSc category of the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge 2013.
