Bio

Over more than two decades dedicated to Electrical Engineering, Telmo Rui Carvalhinho Cunha Fernandes has built a career in teaching, research, technological development, and entrepreneurship. During his academic path, he earned his Licenciatura and Master's degrees from the University of Coimbra in Portugal, specializing in telecommunications, and further strengthened his expertise with a Ph.D. in Radiocommunications from the University of Glamorgan, UK.

Since 1997, he has been part of the Polytechnic University of Leiria, where he began as an Assistant and progressed to Adjunct Professor. His teaching career has been marked by his responsibility in delivering and coordinating numerous curricular units, as well as supervising master's dissertations and doctoral theses.

Alongside his academic career, he has scientific track record with over 70 conference papers and more than 30 publications in prestigious scientific journals, including IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation. He has participated in dozens of R&D projects, contributing to advancements in radio wave propagation and mobile communication systems.

Beyond academia, he has also demonstrated his entrepreneurial vision. In 2008, he founded a technological company, Digiwest Lda., combining his scientific expertise with innovation-driven business initiatives. This venture reflects his commitment to bridging research and industry, fostering the development of cutting-edge solutions in engineering.

His impact on the scientific community is evident through his role as a reviewer for scientific publications and as a senior member of IEEE. Furthermore, he has held leadership positions, including Coordinator of the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, demonstrating strong academic management and leadership skills.
