Haoran Chi has been working in the Instituto de Telecomunicacoes, Portugal since Aug 2019, where he is currently a Permanent Senior Researcher. Before that, he worked as a research scholar at the North Carolina State University in 2018-2019. He obtained his Ph.D. and Bachelor with First Class Honor from the City University of Hong Kong in 2018 and 2013, respectively.
During his career, Dr. Chi has obtained expertise knowledge on 5G (beyond) telecommunication, cloud/fog-based network management, and machine learning. Dr. Chi has published more than 70 technical papers. Currently Dr. Chi’s h-index is 18, with >1400 citations. Dr. Chi has successfully coordinated and managed multiple European projects. He is the WP manager of EU (Exigence, Safe-home, Joconet) and FCT (5G-AHEAD) projects, PI of the Portuguese institutional project NICE-HOME.
Dr. Chi is the Senior Editor of IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of IEEE TCE Letters, Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Communications Standards Magazine, Guest Editor of IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics, Sensors, Journal of Sensor and Actuator Networks, etc. He is a reviewer for >20 Q1/Q2 journals, with >200 manuscript reviews. He has led/organized multiple Special Sessions in reputational IEEE international conferences (IECON, INDIN, ICC, etc.). Dr. Chi has won 3 Best Paper Awards from IEEE reputational conferences. He is also awarded as the Exemplary Editor for IEEE Communications Standards Magazine in 2024.
Dr. Chi is the Secretary and Liaison Leader of IEEE IES Technical Committee on Building, Automation, Control and Management. He is the Vice Chair of IEEE Standard P1451.5.5 Working Group and IEEE Standard P1451.5.6 Working Group. He is an active member of IEEE Standard P1451.5.10 Working Group, and IEEE Standard P2668 (successfully approved in Dec. 2022).
