Energy-Efficient Radio Resource Management in Future Networks

on 30-11-2022

... IEEE and Instituto de Telecomunicações are inviting two distinguished lecturers’ presentations on the scope of the topic “Energy-Efficient Radio Resource Management in Future Networks”.

The first talk entitled “Traffic and energy load balancing in cooperative dual-powered green cellular networks” will be presented by Professor Swades De of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.

Swades De is a full professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and an Institute Chair Professor at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Dr. De's research interests are broadly in communication networks, emphasizing performance modeling and analysis. Current directions include energy-harvesting communication networks, broadband wireless access and routing, network coexistence, smart grid networks, and smart IoT. To date, he has published over 230 articles in top journals and well-known conferences, a few book chapters, an edited book, 1 US/EU/WO patent, and filed 9 Indian patents and 6 US/EU/World patents. He, currently, serves as an Area Editor for IEEE Communications Letters, Area Editor for Elsevier Computer Communication, and Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Wireless Communications Letters, and IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine.

The second talk entitled “Energy- and Spectral-Efficient Resource Allocation Algorithm for Heterogeneous Networks” will be presented by Professor Ender Ayanoglu of University of California Irvine.

Ender Ayanoglu has been a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of California, Irvine, Irvine, CA, where he served as the Center for Pervasive Communications Director and Computing and held the Conexant-Broadcom Endowed Chair. His past accomplishments include the invention of the 56K modems, the characterization of wavelength conversion gain in Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) systems, and diversity coding, a technique for link failure recovery in communication networks employing erasure coding introduced in 1990, prior to the publication of the first papers on network coding. He served as the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Communications from 2004 to 2008. From January 2015 until December 2016 he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications - Series on Green Communications and Networking.

These lectures are sponsored by IEEE Communications Society, IEEE Vehicular Technology Society and IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society and co-sponsored by Instituto de Telecomunicações.

Where: ISCTE-IUL, Av. das Forças Armadas, Lisboa, Building II, Room Number: C202, on 30 November 2022, from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm (UTC+00:00) Lisbon time.

Call for Papers - MOBISLICE Workshop –5th edition of Mobility Support in Slice-based Network Control for Heterogeneous Environments

on 14-11-2022

... IT researcher Daniel Corujo is co-organizing the MOBISLICE Workshop –5th edition of Mobility Support in Slice-based Network Control for Heterogeneous Environments – that will take place in conjunction with VIII IEEE Conference on Network Function Virtualization and Software Defined Networks, on 14th November 2022, Chandler, AZ, at USA.

Rui Aguiar, Networld Europe Seering Board Chair, Full Professor at Universidade de Aveiro is one of the invited keynote speakers.

Network slicing has been a key capability brought forward by the novel 5G mobile architecture. Supported by the integration of novel mechanisms and tools, such as Software Defined Networking, Network Function Virtualization, and RAN enhancements, this capability has triggered a broad spectrum of technological and technical work. This work was able to produce not only important findings for better service provisioning in mobile environments, but also manifested an unprecedented degree of interest from vertical players who see this as a definitive game-changer for evolving their operations to new levels, in addition to providing important insight for the technological landscape realization in future generations of mobile networks.

The MOBISLICE Workshop has open calls for papers extended until September 28th, 2022, on the following topics:

Use cases and architectures evaluation: Slices in constrained environments (IoT, Edge, etc.) Vertical-based scenarios (e.g., Factories of the future including manufacturing automation and process automation; Automotive service and ITS; Telco Operator and enterprise-based environments) Smart-X slice mobility, assisted by AI/ML, fog, and edge Reliability and security Experimental, real trials, and their impact on vertical performance.

Network, Computation, and other enablers Main operations and API: Inter- and intra-slice mobility procedures Lifecycle management and impact Heterogeneous access convergence or abstraction High availability and reliability techniques Experimental and real trials Secure-enabled, AI/ML-enabled, and Fog/Edge-enabled slices.

Standardization efforts and activities: Status and progress in 3GPP/ETSI/IETF/ONF and other SDOs Proposals and standardization direction for advanced slicing SDN/NFV/Cloud/Edge/Fog initiatives Slice-enhanced Networking and telecommunication protocols AI/ML and Security-based slice standardization.
