Instituto de Telecomunicações will host the seminar "Metamaterial-Based Static and Dynamic Synthetic Moving Media" on 10 July, presented by Dr. Toshiyuki Kodama, Assistant Professor at Tohoku University, Japan.

Dr. Kodama received his Ph.D. from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) in 2017. He worked as an Optics Engineer at NALUX Co., Ltd. from 2017 to 2022 before joining Tohoku University as an Assistant Professor, where he has been conducting research since 2022.

 

Abstract:

Synthetic moving media offer new possibilities for manipulating electromagnetic waves without requiring physically moving materials. Dynamic synthetic moving media can be realized through the temporal modulation of the permeability of magnetic materials, while static synthetic moving media can be achieved using bianisotropic metamaterials that simultaneously break time-reversal and spatial-inversion symmetries.

In this seminar, Dr. Kodama will present his research group's latest experimental demonstrations of these two approaches and discuss their potential applications in the control and manipulation of electromagnetic waves.
