IEEE Portugal Joint Chapter AP/MTT/EDS and the Instituto de Telecomunicações are pleased to invite the community to a Distinguished Microwave Lecture by Dr. Joel Dunsmore, a leading expert in advanced measurement systems and Keysight R&D Fellow.
Modern Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs) have evolved far beyond traditional S-parameter measurements. Equipped with flexible hardware and powerful software, today’s VNAs offer unmatched precision across a broad spectrum of applications. They function as multi-functional test systems, enabling in-depth characterization of devices and signals, from noise figure and gain compression to phase noise, mixer performance, and frequency converter analysis.
Recently, Vector Spectrum Analysis (VSA) capabilities have been integrated into VNAs, allowing precise measurements of complex modulated signals, such as Error Vector Magnitude (EVM), Adjacent Channel Power Ratio (ACPR), and Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD) characteristics. These advancements enable high-frequency mm-wave and sub-THz measurements with unprecedented accuracy, including demonstrations at 250 GHz using 20 GHz bandwidth modulated signals.
This lecture will explore these advanced methodologies and configurations that push the limits of microwave component characterization, showcasing how next-generation VNAs deliver insights beyond the reach of conventional instruments.
About the Speaker
