DigiScope - DIGItally enhanced stethosCOPE for clinical usage

Acronym DigiScope
Main objective In the ears of an experienced physician, a stethoscope yields important clinical information which can help an initial assessment of a patient’s clinical condition and guide the subsequent need for more specialized exams. Auscultation is both a powerful tool for screening the generic population for cardiac diseases and a hard clinical skill to master. Our motivation is thus to address state-of-the-art digital audio signal processing research challenges for extracting clinical features from auscultation, as well as providing a clinical second opinion on specific heart pathologies. We pay particular attention to aortic pulmonary signal decomposition and its correlation with pulmonary arterial pressure, researching novel algorithms that can enable us to assist clinicians in the detection of pulmonary arterial hypertension situations. This is a good example of a reasonably common and sometimes deadly pathology that is difficult to detect by inexperienced physicians and which has a good prognosis when detected early.
