Abstract
This paper presents the design of a double-shell shaped axial-symmetric lens intended for space applications, as an example of the capabilities of the lens design tool – ILASH – that is being developed at Instituto de Telecomunicações under contract for the European Space Agency. An initial lens shape is obtained using a Geometric Optics (GO) formalism subject to a Gaussian output radiation pattern template. This profile is then optimized using Genetic Algorithm (GA) combined with the classical Geometric Optics + Physical Optics (GO/PO) approach. The paper discusses the performance of the obtained lens, while showing how ILASH tool can be used.
