The Image Laboratory backs up the research and development of multimedia technologies, especially in the areas of visual information analysis, modeling, processing, manipulation, representation, coding, description and adaptation.

Due to the importance of the interoperability requirement in the context of visual services, the Image Group has since the very beginning considered as essential the pro-active participation in the most important audiovisual representation standardization body: ISO/IEC MPEG.

Also the participation in national and international research and development projects is a major target of the group. In fact, the Image Group continuously tries to find the best balance between research, project and standardization activities.
