The optics facilities in IT-Aveiro are constituted by three labs.

Lab 1 is dedicated to computer simulation and optimization.

Lab 2 is dedicated to optical testing and measurement. This lab has several state of the art equipments which allow the implementation of different experiences. These equipments enable 40 Gbit/s BER test and measurement, generation and measurement of optical pulses at 160 Gbit/s, measurement of complex optical spectrums, measurement and analysis of transfer functions of optical components, DWDM test beds, high power optical amplification, on-wafer test setup and long-haul transmission measurements.

Lab 3 is a brand new lab for optical components manufacturing and testing. The main equipments are a high power pulsed UV laser, high precision positioning devices and two climate chambers. The manufacturing possibilities include advanced fiber Bragg gratings up to 1 meter long and planar optical devices, with a recording resolution up to 1 nanometer.
