The circuits and devices activity at IT is aimed at designing and characterizing a wide range of millimetre-wave/microwave/RF circuit and sub-systems that cover all the circuits found in the RF front-ends of modern transceivers. So, they include, but are not limited to, low-noise and power amplifiers, RF switches, mixers, filters and duplexers, oscillators, synthesizers and modulators. Implementation media cover all modern hybrid and monolithic technologies, as Si CMOS or Bi-CMOS, SiGe and GaAs HBT, and GaAs or GaN MESFETs and HEMTs. Associated to this research field, several other activities concerning device modelling, computer-aided-design algorithms and nonlinear system and signal testing and identification, have also been carried on.

| RF and Microwave Circuit Design |
The work on RF and Microwave circuit design has been directed to the analysis and design of several wireless RF components for a wide range of frequency bands and applications. These mainly include passive and active filters, low-noise and power amplifiers, mixers and oscillators. A special emphasis has been put on monolithic CMOS implementations, for low power/portable devices and on LDMOS and GaN HEMTs for base-station and satellite power amplifiers.

| Computer Aided Design Tools for RF/Microwave Circuits and Systems |
The research activities conducted under this topic have addressed both the modelling of devices and sub-systems, as well as the algorithms for computer aided-design of nonlinear microwave circuits and systems. This included the extraction of nonlinear models for microwave devices as GaAs MESFETs, Si CMOS and GaN HEMTs, and behavioural models of power amplifiers and mixers for system level simulation of wireless transmitters.
